Discover LA: The Standard Hotel

IMG_2241Has anyone opened the pool party season yet? Summer in LA means never ending pool parties. As every Angeleno, one of our go to spots in summer is the rooftop of the Standard Hotel.

The Standard Hotel is located in the center of Downtown LA surrounded by many restaurants and cafes. It provides you the perfect opportunity to get a small bite before going up to the rooftop pool or going back to your hotel room. Their contemporary and hip rooms have mood lighting and free Wi-Fi. For the ones who don’t mind paying a little extra, the upgraded rooms also have great city views.

Their pool parties have always been so hip. They have a rooftop pool, which is heated year round. The area offers a variety of options from waterbed pods to outdoor fireplace. They also have a Biergarten close to the pool area, which provides tastes from Germany for beer lovers.

Besides their popular pool party, the Standard Hotel is also home to a really nice brasserie called 24/7. This restaurant is a downtown gem focusing on organic and locally sourced products for their daily served menu. Inside, they have a diner-like counter, which really is great for having a loft & bear cocktail with a friend or two. In the nice LA weather, if you prefer to be outdoors but still enjoy organic and local food, we are sure you will enjoy 24/7’s charming outdoor patio. You can also find our newest cocktail at the Spin Standard bar called Second Verse. With amontillado, vodka, lemon and strawberry, it’s sure to please.

For sure, these are not the only offerings Standard Hotel has to offer its guests. It is a home for many restaurants so why not go check them out this summer?

Things to Do With Pops in LA

Father’s Day is upon us. And with that in mind, we thought to share some possible activities you can do with your old man today. You may find this post especially useful if you still don’t know what to do and are trying to find something last minute. It’s okay, we all do it.

For the Outdoorsy Father

If he loves spending his time outside enjoying nature’s landscapes, you have to consider taking him hiking on the Sara Wan Trailhead at Corral Canyon. This is where mountains views meet the sea’s horizon. And best yet, Malibu’s Corral Canyon is the only coastal canyon in Los Angeles county that has never been developed. That’s right, raw nature, just as it was intended.

The Art Lover

Just in time for the Father’s Day weekend, bring him to the Pasadena Chalk Festival where more than 600 artists gather to make street art in many styles from classical to contemporary. Held at the Paseo Colorado Shopping Center (280 E Colorado Blvd.) it’s the largest street painting festival in the world. In addition to the art, there’s plenty of food, shopping, and live music to enjoy. Oh and it’s free, so go.

The Multi-Tasker

If he can’t resist the chance to kill two birds with one stone, you gotta take him to Blind Barber in Culver City. Not only can he get a traditional haircut and straight-razor shave here (please take him if he needs one,)  he can also enjoy crafted cocktails at their speakeasy space. Yes, this place doubles as both a barbershop and a bar; business in the front, party in the back. The atmosphere has a younger, hipper vibe, so make sure that’s cool with him. The happy hour is 6-8pm btw, if you’re into that.

Discover LA: The Line Hotel

IMG_3272_edit.jpgIMG_3274

We are constantly in search of new, cool spots to get lost in LA. This week our pick is The Line Hotel in Koreatown. The hotel is set in a restored midcentury building. It differentiates itself from many surrounding hotels by its floor to ceiling windows, which provides stunning Hollywood Hills views and with its industrial-chic rooms and funky original art pieces, which creates a very hip atmosphere.

During the day, you can relax by the pool, which is surrounded by citrus trees or you can grab lunch in the greenhouse commissary. By creating a glass dome right in the middle of the city, The Line Hotel’s Commissary restaurant is for sure one of our favorite places. Or if you enjoy authentic food, you can please your palate at the Pot restaurant inside the hotel, which brings Korean culture to your table.

While you are escaping from the city life and relaxing at The Line Hotel, we highly recommend trying The Locust & Lanfray cocktail. In this warm weather, this cool loft & bear cocktail will make you feel like you are on vacation.

California Primary Is Here!

IMG_3742_lowresIMG_3763_lowresToms (you know, the charitable shoe company) recently held an event with Rock the Vote (you know, the organization that encourages young people to vote).

The event, in contrast to most political functions, was….fun! The people weren’t divided by political party, ideology, or socioeconomic status, but united by common interest and intrigued camaraderie. Politics, rather than being treated as something to never be spoken of, rather than being something consciously ignored by everyone as a topic unfit for comfortable discourse until the day of election, was made the center of the evening.

IMG_3760_lowresIMG_3740_lowresIMG_3728_lowres

You didn’t have to talk about politics to enjoy what transpired. Whether you spent the evening sitting back to the live music, loitering by the bar to indulge in cocktails, or listening to the speakers, everyone was there for encouraging charity, voting, and making the world a better place through purposeful and positive action.

The California Primary is June 7. You know what to do.

Discover LA: Front of the House

IMG_2753_editIMG_2778

Shout out to everyone out there who enjoys Mexican cuisine as much as we do. We recently discovered a new venue in downtown LA, one that combines Mexican food with craft cocktails and provides a perfect mixture of both worlds to its customers.

From the moment you step into the restaurant, you immediately feel something different and unique about this place. It has a relaxing yet hip and modern feel. If you are one those people who value a pleasing aesthetic as much as the pleasure to the palate, FOH for sure provides you both. Their food is as good as their decor.

IMG_2762IMG_2764_edit

To have a nice lunch after your workout or to have some fun pregame time before going to the Standard Hotels rooftop, you can stop by at the Front of the House and get small bites accompanied with amazing craft cocktails all made with special care.

By having a team who highly values the family spirit and believe in creating the best possible outcome by working together in harmony, we assure you that you won’t regret giving this new discovery of ours a try.

86’d

IMG_3234IMG_3098IMG_3096_b&wIMG_3230_b&w

Four bartenders faced a mystery box of random ingredients including a local spirit. Each bartender used their skill and wit to create a unique drink that blended all the herbs, spices, and syrups together. It was a night of community and celebration as one walked away a winner, the rest were 86’d.
